No ... I'm not going to argue the point ... obviously my understanding was wrong - I always thought that Mandela and co's pardon's took place under special circumstances.

Wasn't looking for an argument/ debate. Was just correcting ya ;)

It's VERY difficult to get a presidential pardon because of how important and significant it is. Remember the hoo-ha over Allan Boesak's pardon? If Zuma was to be pardoned I'd be very shocked but as the ANC has shown, they don't mind using the law "creatively" to further their goals.

If Zuma takes over expect a swift pardon of Tony Yengeni...

zuma & his merry band of "supporters" knew he was going to lose.
if u look at the trend you will notice how he never turns up in court whenever judgement is not in his favour in his appeal matters. zuma will probably appeal all the to the concourt, that's always been his play throughout his court battles.

he will then turn around and scream justice delayed is justice denied even when he's the only one delaying the justice. this man doesn't know how to read a writing on the wall. good thing he didn't live in biblical times...:D

I don't want to be a prophet of doom but all this will affect the Rand negatively and therefore impact badly on the Feb MPC rates decision. Bye bye 1% cut methinks. Looks like we'll all pay for this kark!:(

I'll rather pay a bit now than pay a lot in the long run. It's time JZ gets his day in court.

Well I hope the concourt says no

So do I but there is IMO a good chance that the concourt will side with the shower boy and make it all go away, and so save the ANC a lot of stress and headaches. Or if they do turn him down (so as not to appear too obvious and blatant) and he goes to trial, the court then will, in all probability, find him "innocent" and settle the matter that way in order not to extinguish the lit fuse on the powder keg.

I'd take a very careful read through the judgement first - he can appeal if he likes, but I honestly think he'll be wasting everyone's time and money.

Nicolson was completely wrong and out of line to start with, so this shouldn't even have gotten this far.

He'll never have his day in court. Nicholson did just enough to delay proceedings long enough for JZ to be president before he is standing in the dock. Every calculated move by Jacob Zuma's legal team has been designed thoroughly to delay him getting into court on the actual charges. It would seem that their only agenda was to prevent him from being tried or at least until he is el prez and can make an executive decision to eliminate the case altogether. This entire case has been one extremely well manipulated piece of lawyering probably in this country to date. Kemp and his band of advocates showed why they earn the big bucks. Damn, they even managed to convince a judge that extraneous "possible" facts not pertinent to the case was important enough to dismiss the charges altogether. They played it. They probably new that on the facts at hand Jacob Zuma would likely have a big challenge, so they played it as hard as they could to ensure the delay, albeit just long enough to extend past the elections.
