US search engine has new adverts

Google announced that it has added advertising balloons to its local mapping service, which provides the US online search giant another way to make money.

Paid ads for businesses will hover above their locations on the map in response to specific search requests, such as where to find a French restaurant in San Francisco, a hotel in London, or a movie theatre in Toronto.

Clicking a computer cursor on a balloon reveals details about the business and perhaps an image or a link to its website.

The "Adwords" feature is available for advertisers in Britain, Canada and the United States, Google said in a written release.

"Businesses can promote location-based products and services to users at the precise moment when they seek local information," according to Google.
