MCI sells 30% in UUNET SA to J&J Group
J&J will add value to the business of UUNET – Africa’s provider of converged communications solutions – by working actively at an operational level as well as board level, MCI said in a statement.
MCI president of international and wholesale Dan Crawford said the deal would enable the US-based group to better compete in all segments of business. It also would ensure that UUNET is in line with black economic empowerment (BEE) requirements.
J&J CEO Jayendra Naidoo expects MCI’s global reach and the high-quality backbone infrastructure in South Africa to assist J&J achieve its goals. The acquisition is a logical extension of building an IT platform, the BEE firm said.
"Given the rapid convergence of technologies and the policy reform process being driven by government, we see major opportunities emerging," Naidoo added.
