Vodacom launches mobile TV in SA

Vodacom’s Pieter Uys described mobile TV as an entertainment service with mass appeal and believes there will be many millions of mobile TV viewers worldwide by 2010.

Channels available to Vodacom customers include E! Entertainment, Fashion TV, Chilli TV and BBC while MTV channels and Sky News will be added in due course.

Although 3G, or third generation technology, arrived in the country last December, South African 3G subscribers cannot make video calls across the networks as MTN Group (MTN) and Vodacom are yet to effect the relevant interconnection agreements.
