Sentech’s BizNet Express takes aim at Telkom’s Diginet service
Georg Wenhold, BizNet product development manager, says the product is a cost-effective alternative for medium-to-large enterprises looking to link company networks, interconnect to private networks, or even connect to the Internet.
"BizNet Xpress was designed specifically as a business-grade alternative to the traditional wired access media that most businesses currently use.
Whilst it provides the same functionality of traditional wired networks, it comes standard with the added simplicity, functionality and the convenience of a wireless network," says Wenhold.
The product is the culmination of intensive work dating back to the awarding of Sentech’s multimedia services licence in 2002.
"Following the launch of our broadband wireless service, MyWireless, the company turned its attention to mid-tier and large South African businesses, and particularly their need for more flexible, high-quality access and networking options," he adds.
BizNet Xpress operates in the regulated 3.5GHz frequency band, the most commonly licensed band globally. It uses techniques like dynamic bandwidth allocation, high-order modulation schemes and error correction to maximise spectral efficiency, thereby ensuring that the real data rate delivered to customers is more than 80% of the ‘over-the-air’ data rate.
Using non-line of site wireless capabilities, it connects high-sites on the Sentech backbone with antennae of subscribing businesses, at speeds up to 2Mbps over ranges of up to 20km.
"People have come to believe that with wireless, you have to sacrifice quality and security in order to reap the benefits of lower costs and greater convenience. Well, not any more. We manage the service according to performance-based SLAs, and can therefore guarantee high availability, complete security, and overall peace of mind for business users at all times," concludes Wenhold.
BizNet Xpress is being made available to businesses as a full leased line replacement service, or as an integrated service that complements existing infrastructure by providing failover and/or redundancy.
