Sentech calls for 150 GB local ADSL cap
When discussing caps imposed on the ADSL service, Sentech said “…Regulations should provide for the imposition of a minimum cap of 150 gigabytes in respect of national bandwidth and 50 gigabytes in respect of international bandwidth.”
Sentech’s standard MyWireless 128, 256 and 512 Classic packages carry soft caps of 10, 20 and 40 GB respectively.
The MyWireless packages are one of the few on the market to make provision for high end users. Sentech have higher basic usage limits than any other broadband provider in South Africa.
In its submission Sentech also highlights the need to address the ‘robustly regulated ADSL wholesale pricing structure; the high costs of national and international bandwidth, the terms and conditions of access to the undersea cables and the ability of other licensees to provide ADSL as part of their service offerings by means of unbundling of the local loop or reseller arrangements.’.
While Sentech is not in favour of the scrapping of ADSL access charges, it feels that ICASA should prohibit making ADSL service provision conditional on the acquisition of an ordinary telephone service.
