Eskom bogged down by more than just electricity issues
Visitors trying to access the Eskom website on Wednesday were greeted with messages like “Error in Select DB: Server user ‘ensight’ is not a valid user in database ‘EskomEnsight’.. You said:” and “Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)”.
Unsurprisingly Fani Zulu, the official Eskom spokesperson, was not available for comment and his mobile phone mailbox was also full. It seems Eskom PR department is overloaded.
Eskom’s corporate webmaster filled his shoes and informed MyADSL that they are having severe difficulties with the content management system.
There were intermittent problems with the Eskom site previously, but according to the webmaster the problems became more severe after a module was loaded to include their new advertised vacancies.
An increase in traffic to the Eskom site, which has doubled in the last few days, may have also contributed to the problems.
Eskom’s website is running on Envent’s Ensight content management system, and they were subsequently called in to solve the problem. Envent then updated the CMS software to try and eradicate the continual problems, but since then the website has been very unstable.
Currently there is still uncertainty about the specific problems causing the downtime, but Eskom has assured customers that they are doing their best to ensure that the site is up and stable as soon as possible.
They however look to be at the mercy of Envent, who seem to be uncertain as to the cause of the downtime, which complicates matters.
Envent informed MyADSL that they only supply the software and are not responsible for managing the site or system.
