Rankings of world telecom equipment makers

Here follows a list of the leading companies in the sector on the basis of sales in 2004 or 2005 as listed by the institute IDATE.

IDATE says that the alliance between Alcatel and Lucent would create an entity ranking second in the world, just behind US giant Cisco Systems in terms of sales.

The following sales figures, expressed in billions of dollars, exclude sales of fixed-line and mobile telephones.

– Cisco Systems (US): sales with those of Scientific Atlanta acquired at the end of 2005: about 28.5 billion dollars
– Alcatel (France) after absorbing Lucent (US): about 25.0 billion dollars
– Ericsson (Swedfen): sales with those of Marconi (Britain) acquired at the end of 2005: about 20.8 billion dollars in 2005
– Siemens (Germany): 13.79 billion dollars in 2004
– Nortel (canada): 9.8 billion dollars in 2004
– Nokia (Finland): 7.9 billion dollars in 2004
– Motorola (US): 7.7 billion dollars in 2004
– Fujitsu (Japan): 3.69 billion dollars in 2004

IDATE says that the world market for telecommunications equipment is on a path of steady growth. Having grown sharply by 8.2 percent last year, it is expected to expand by 2.1% per year up to 2009 when the annual value of equipment purchased would be 254.3 billion dollars (211.0 billion euros).
