New IS ADSL Offering Available
Unlike their standard ADSL services where traffic is carried via satellite, the new service makes use of the SAT3 cable for all traffic.
According to IS access product manager, Alan Bacher, this new service promises improved performance as it cuts out some of the risks involved in using a satellite connection.
“The basic difference between Fibre Business ADSL and our standard Business ADSL offering is purely how it is routed internationally. Business ADSL is routed via satellite internationally so it is subject to the standard potential risks that arise when making use of satellite as a connectivity medium such as possible downtime due to sun spots, storms etc,” said Bacher.
“Fibre Business ADSL would not be subject to these same risks since it makes use of Fibre Optic links via the SAT 3 cable. Because of the Fibre Optic links it should have better latency and throughput as well as higher availability and run fewer errors,” he continued.
IS have tested this new product for several months and according to them the feedback they have received during the trials from clients has been very positive.
This new ADSL offering comes in two flavors, namely Business ADSL over Fibre 512 and Business ADSL over Fibre 1024. The cost for the 512 offering is R 2500-00 per month while the 1024 service costs R 5000-00 per month (VAT Exclusive).
Both these offerings are uncapped, come with five static IP addresses for hosting or email services and include a variety of value added services.
