Solidarity accepts Telkom offer
The Communications Workers Union (CWU) are however still not entirely happy with the offer and are continuing their negotiations with the incumbent.
Jaco Kleynhans, spokesman for Solidarity, said that 57% of their members voted in favour of the new offer from Telkom. This new wage agreement will be effective from tomorrow.
The new agreement includes the following benefits to employees:
• Gain sharing (which ranges from R10 000 to R15 000 for the different categories of employees in the bargaining unit).
• Backdating of the long service awards to 1 January 2006.
• The revision to the compression of grades proposal. Employees who meet as well as exceed their performance targets will benefit by receiving an additional fixed amount to their basic salaries, provided that their annual salaries are below the specified threshold.
Telkom said that they are happy that the issue with Solidarity was resolved and that it is a step forward for employee well-being.
The telecoms giant added that in the case of the CWU, they would not be able to backdating the revised offer with the result that any agreement reached would be effective from the day of signing.
The CWU was unfortunately not available for comment.
