MTN acquires remaining 40% stake to own MTN Network Solutions

MTN Network Solutions was created through the joint purchase by the MTN Group (60%) and Johncom (40%) of Internet Service Provider, Citec, in 2001. Today, the company is one of South Africa’s leading Network Solution Providers. It operates a large and robust network which provides network architecture and solutions to the corporate market.

MTN Network Solutions is positioned to harness the synergies between telecoms, IT, media and entertainment, in the convergence of IP networking and GSM technologies.

Says Yvonne Muthien, group executive: corporate affairs, MTN Group: “This move signals a new chapter for the highly successful MTN Network Solutions, and underpins the MTN Group strategy in a world of converged telecommunications. MTN Network Solutions will be fully integrated into MTN South Africa creating synergies between our GSM and IP networks. We will be expanding rapidly in the data market across Africa, with a renewed focus on South Africa.”

With the construction of a new commercial hosting facility in Rosebank, MTN Network Solutions has become a specialist in hosting high volume websites, such as MTN Loaded, CareerJunction, Sunday Times and Business Day, among others.
