Anti-Telkom protestors hit the streets once again
Their protest is loud and clear and this time it just happens to be on The Star graffiti wall on Jan Smuts Avenue.
“Telkom – R6.8 billion profit last year. Telkom is ripping YOU off,” is the message sprayed across the graffiti wall.
Yesterday, AntiTrust members gathered to paint their message of protest against Telkom in red with the aim of heightening awareness amoung the South African public regarding what they call the “excessively high costs of telecommunications in South Africa.”
A secondary but no less important goal is to place pressure on government to speed up the liberalization of the telecommunications sector according to Anti-Trust member Debbie Love.
Anti-Trust members reported that many motorists hooted and cheered as they were passing with one motorist even commenting that the slogan should be bigger.
This is not the first time Anti-Trust has hit the streets to protest against Telkom. Earlier this month, AntiTrust launched a public protest in Rosebank and distributed anti-Telkom flyers in an attempt to draw attention to the issue of telecommunications costs.
Telkom was unfortunately unavailable for comment.
