Telkom ADSL down
According to the company, this was due to a fault in one of the Ethernet cables attached to its exchange in Rosebank.
Telkom says that it uses two Ethernet cables to carry data to and from its local exchange in Rosebank, one of which failed. "When we heard the one cable had failed, we had to transfer all traffic from the first cable onto the second one, thus some people may have experienced slow connectivity speeds," comments Xolisa Vapi, senior specialist for media relations at Telkom SA.
He adds that some users may have also experienced difficulty when connecting to international sites. According to Telkom, the problem only affected those customers who dial into the Rosebank exchange. "Customers who connect to other exchanges around SA should not have been affected at all," comments Vapi.
The company did say that it was working on the problem, but was not sure when it would be resolved. It also was unsure as to what caused the cable fault.
