ICASA Making Good Progress on ADSL Draft Regulations

The ICASA ADSL investigation is as a result of complaints from MyADSL and various other organizations and individuals regarding Telkom’s ADSL service. These complaints resulted in a public hearing, which culminated in the ICASA ADSL Findings Report.

ADSL users now await the publication of the draft regulations in the Government Gazette.

Thereafter ICASA will again seek written comments and oral presentations from interested parties. This will take a very similar approach to the initial investigation.

All parties will again be consulted by ICASA who will then consolidate all the information and publish their final regulations.

While this sounds like a daunting and time consuming exercise, ICASA is confident that the full process can be completed in as little as a couple of months.

Predictably there is a tremendous amount of interest in these regulations from both industry players and consumers.

The ADSL hearings with ICASA received a record number of written submissions and oral presentations first time around. This trend looks to be repeated for the draft regulations feedback as well.
