Telkom ADSL ‘Self Install’ now available

With the ADSL self install option there is no need for a technician to visit the customer’s premise. Subscribers will need an ADSL modem, micro-filters and the required cabling to ensure successful installation. Access to the ADSL helpdesk is available free to customers that struggle installing the service.

The Telkom website highlights that this is a cheaper and faster method of getting ADSL.

“Self Install Option will be the option for customers requiring ADSL access and being confident enough to complete the installation of the modem without a Telkom technician’s assistance. The advantages include a cheaper and quicker installation (no waiting for a Telkom technician to confirm an appointment).”

The customer will still have access to a technician if there are any problems, but will have to foot the bill of a call-out fee in this event.

Interested customers can phone 10219 to enquire about this product.

Software will be provided to the customer, but unfortunately we could not gain clarity on the delivery method for this software. Customers that sign a 24 month contract with Telkom will be provided with a free modem.

The ADSL Service Verification website that forms part of this service can be found at http://www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl

The ADSL self install option will hopefully alleviate some of the congestion in the ADSL installation process. Currently potential customers are forced to wait for months before ADSL is installed due to the long waiting list.

Telkom was unfortunately unavailable for comment.
