A&G axes internet
Its cheap connection fee of R59 a month had not been raised in its three years of activity. Users have been offered an easy switch to another service provider, Polka, at R75 a month.
Although the service officially ended on September 30, some users heard the news only in October, when they received a phone call from Polka telling them the A&G connectivity had been axed.
A&G become an unlikely internet player in January 2002, in a move timed to coincide with a decision by Absa group to discontinue its own unusual offering of free internet access.
Spokesman Angelo Haggiyannes says A&G axed the service because it was not a core part of its business.
Users who agree to switch to Polka, an MWeb subsidiary, will get one month of free access, and e-mail from A&G accounts will automatically be forwarded to new Polka e-mail accounts.
