Free ADSL gaming bandwidth kicks in today
Internet Service provider (ISP) Web Africa recently announced that it will be launching a free gaming service for customers. “All Web Africa users with a Web Africa ADSL account will not utilise any of their monthly caps whilst gaming within the Web Africa network,” the company said in a press statement in early November.
According to Web Africa games master Johnathan Enslin, the launch of a gaming service is possible because of Web Africa’s recent upgrade to its own network, making it a Tier 1 ISP. “Having our own network makes it possible to control speed and reliability, ensuring that response times are optimal for gaming. Our focus is to ensure that gamers have a hassle-free experience, so we’ve joined forces with the best in the business to offer a top-quality service.”
The company further announced that it has partnered with local gaming infrastructure team Organised Chaos to launch this service for customers. The service will initially include four games: Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty: World at War, Counter Strike: Source, and Team Fortress 2. Enslin also confirmed that the ADSL bandwidth for the gaming service will be unshaped and will run through Web Africa’s own IPC Network.
Good news for Web Africa ADSL subscribers is that the migration to the new IPC network is set to take place today. In an announcement Web Africa said that “at 3pm we will be migrating the ADSL users on our shaped packages to our brand new network. We are looking forward to providing extended value propositions after the completion of the migration.”
Web Africa CEO Matthew Tagg confirmed that the free gaming bandwidth service will become operational at 6pm tonight – shortly after the migration is completed. A timer, set for when the service will go live, is available on the new Web Africa gaming website: http://wage.webafrica.co.za/
