10 Mbps+ FTTX here soon
Over the last two years Neotel has become well known for its wireless Internet offerings. It is currently serving residential and small businesses with its NeoConnect and NeoFlex services, and recently launched its uncapped 2 Mbps WiMAX service aimed at the small and medium sized business market.
Neotel has now revealed that it is getting ready to offer businesses an affordable Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTX) service with speeds of at least 10 Mbps.
The Neotel FTTX offering will be deployed in areas where Neotel already have a fibre presence like the Sandton central business district. Neotel will start to pull fibre into the buildings and offices over the next few months.
While Neotel is reluctant to discuss pricing at this stage, it is speculated that the service may be priced from around R3000 per month. This will be well below competing high speed services like bonded ADSL solutions and iBurst Business’s Wireless DSL offering.
Telkom is however starting to roll out its 8 Mbps ADSL2+ service soon, and the fixed line provider indicated that they are also trialing 10 Mbps and 12 Mbps services. This means that Telkom may also be able to offer businesses 10 Mbps fixed line connections in the near future.
