The Dragon has landed
The Dragon has landed near Southern California.
SpaceX says its unmanned Dragon spaceship splashed down in the Pacific west of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula Wednesday afternoon after a supply run to the International Space Station.
It carried 5,000 pounds (2,250 kilograms) of groceries and belated Christmas presents to the station last month. An earlier supply ship was destroyed in an October launch explosion.
Dragon returned with science samples and broken equipment, including spacesuit parts.
The landing came about 90 minutes after SpaceX scrubbed the planned Florida launch of a weather satellite called the Deep Space Climate Observatory.
The company says high-atmosphere winds gusting to 115 mph (185 kph) made it unsafe to launch from Cape Canaveral. It’s the second delay in three days.
Another try is planned for Wednesday.
