Google gives Ananzi warning
The South African search war has been won by Google.co.za years ago, and local search engines like Ananzi and Aardvark have lost their traction in the market.
Ananzi currently has a South African Alexa traffic rank of 180, well below Google.co.za which is the most visited website in South Africa.
Ananzi has now been dealt another blow. Google is warning its search users that visiting Ananzi may harm their computer. The malware warning “Warning – visiting this web site may harm your computer!” appears when clicking on an Ananzi.co.za link in Google.
Google’s safe browsing diagnostic page about Ananzi reveals that “Of the 13 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 3 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2010-09-09, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2010-09-09”.
Ananzi MD Mark Buwalda said that they are well aware of the problem which they narrowed down to a problem with an ad server. Buwalda added that they are keen to resolve the problem today.
