SABC to launch new TV channels
The SABC will establish new “language-based” television channels, and will no longer advertise job vacancies and tenders in print or through other media platforms.
This is according to a report by Africa News Agency, which stated the broadcaster will create TV channels that “strictly cover a cluster of language groups”.
“These channels will serve the millions of SABC’s audiences in the language of their choice,” said COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
- Sesotho, Setswana, and Sepedi will form the Sotho channel.
- isiZulu, isiXhosa, siSwati, and isiNdebele will form the Nguni channel.
- xiTsonga and tshiVenda will form the third channel.
- Afrikaans, and content including the Khoisan community, will form the base of the fourth channel.
The SABC said it will also increase local content offerings, and pay more attention to jazz and reggae music.
SABC news bulletins will also receive a segment dedicated to news from the provinces.
Job adverts
“The SABC has also decided it will advertise its employment vacancies and tender advertisements on the SABC’s television, radio, and digital platforms only,” said Motsoeneng.
This decision will be implemented with immediate effect, stated the report.
