Cell C rings up the numbers

Cell C recently said that they activated more than a million new subscribers since the launch of the Woza Weekend offering at the end of June this year.

The total number of minutes consumed during weekends on Cell C to Cell C calls skyrocketed to 16 million, a 4 000% increase since the launch. The company has also provided favourable reports about their R5-00 Half Tiger voucher, launched in 2004.

The Half Tiger is the fastest growing recharge voucher that Cell C has ever launched, having sold 161 293 382 million recharge vouchers to date. In August and September alone, 8.8 million and 9.2 million recharge vouchers were sold respectively.

“When we launched the Half Tiger three years ago, we aimed it specifically at the lower end of the cellular market which had not previously enjoyed ready access to cellular telephony,” said Simon Camerer, Cell C’s Executive Head of Marketing.

“Since then its take-off has been phenomenal, and growing month-on-month figures validate its on-going popularity.”

Cell C CEO Jeffrey Hedberg said earlier this year that the company will aggressively target the LSM 3 to 7 market and that he plans to double both the company’s subscriber base and its revenue by 2010.

So far he seems to be on track to achieve this, and with ICASA looking at the interconnection rates between cellular operators he may be given more scope to develop innovative packages and reduce call rates.
