Beware of new FNB “reactivate card” scam
FNB is warning banking customers about a new scam which is doing the rounds in South Africa.
The bank is issuing a warning to customers when they visit FNB’s online banking portal.
The scam is based on criminals asking FNB customers to either reactivate or register their FNB card.
An example of the scam is detailed below.
Step 1 – Email
You will receive an email – including an attachment – requesting you to reactivate or register your FNB card, with a warning that failure to do so will lead to the card being suspended.
Step 2 – Fake website
When the attachment is selected, you will be presented with a fake fnb.co.za screen requesting your personal information.
Step 3 – Profile stolen
When you enter your details on this screen, the fraudsters will be in a position to access your banking profile.
FNB said it will never ask for your username, password, or PIN in an email, SMS, or phone call.
“Never select a link to our website that was sent via email,” said the bank.
