Using graphene to make flexible OLED screens
A team of South Korean researchers has developed the first OLED panel which uses graphene electrodes.
The graphene-based OLED panel is flexible and resistant to chipping, making it a suitable material for thin smartphone screens.
Currently, most OLED displays use transparent electrodes made of indium tin oxide – which is relatively fragile.
The properties of graphene OLED displays mean they could potentially be sewn into clothing or implemented in next-generation wearables and smartphones.
The team plans to help commercialise flexible and foldable graphene OLED panels in the next five years.
