Vodacom out, MTN in – Springbok rugby sponsorship
The South African Rugby Union (SARU) recently announced that Vodacom has stepped away from its sponsorship rights for the Springbok team.
Following the announcement, MTN stated that it is now the new title sponsor of the national rugby team.
MTN has agreed to a three-year deal to back the national team, according to Sport24.
The Springbok jersey will now carry the MTN logo on its centre, and the new kit will be worn for the first time against France this weekend.
“On behalf of the SA Rugby Executive Council, I would like to express our gratitude to Vodacom, who have demonstrated what a tremendous partner they have been over the years by hearing our case and putting the needs of the national team first. We sincerely applaud them for their generosity and sportsmanship,” said Jurie Roux, CEO of SA Rugby.
Vodacom will continue to partner with SA Rugby as the naming rights sponsor of Vodacom Super Rugby, which it has held since 1998.
