Telkom Media gives content tariffs

Telkom Media has published its first round of briefs for the production of local content as well as a guide to its standard Terms of Trade for acquiring local content.

The new pay-TV provider says that they are looking for a relatively small number of big shows for 2008, “shows that are able to take up space on billboards and in the press and in people’s minds.”

“We need local content that will distinguish us; programmes that will first make people want to subscribe to our service, and then make them feel that it’s worthwhile,” Telkom Media says in its official brief.

In addition to “bespoke” content Telkom Media is also interested in acquiring broadcast rights to existing material to which producers own the rights. Here the company has a strong focus on stand-up comedy, wildlife and feature documentaries.

The tariffs for bespoke content range from R 576 000 – R 1 200 000 per hour for Drama, R 120 000 – R 240 000 for 30 minutes of Comedy and R 36 000 – R 60 000 for Talk TV.

Early in 2008 the company said they will conduct face to face briefings with producers to outline Telkom Media’s future plans and requirements.
