Telkom faces pay strike

Telkom money

It said labour unions recognised by Telkom rejected the company’s final pay rise proposal earlier in the day.

The company made the offer for a two-year agreement during the wage dispute meeting with unions at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.

Solidarity said Telkom offered an increase of five percent for the period April to September, and another one percentage point increase for October 2011 to March 2012.

A raise equal to consumer price inflation plus one percent was offered for 2012.

“The trade unions rejected the offer and a strike certificate will be issued to the trade unions within the next day or two,” Solidarity said.
