Tribunal approves Vodacom merger

The Competion Tribunal has unconditionally approved the merger between Vodacom service provider (VSP) and Global Telematics SA and Glocell service provider company (GSPC).

The tribunal added on Wednesday that Vodacom would terminate the VSP licence held by Global Telematics and acquire Global Telematics' business relating to the registration of contract and prepaid subscribers on the Vodacom network.

"In order for this transaction to take place, it is necessary for Global Telematics to acquire GSPC and its subscriber base," the tribunal said.

Post transaction, Global Telematics will have effective control of GSPC and VSP will control Global Telematics' cellular business, which relates to the provision of services and products on behalf of Vodacom.
