Apple hires Yahoo data centre Vice President
Scott Noteboom, previously the vice president of data centre engineering and operations at Yahoo, is now a “Distinguished Gentleman” at Apple according to his LinkedIn profile.
Noteboom’s previous experience means he will probably be tasked with running data centres and servers at Apple as they expand their iCloud and iTunes service offerings.
According to a conference bio on Noteboom, “He also managed over 10x growth of the company’s data centre/compute operating footprint, leading teams that installed and support multi hundred thousand hosts. Scott’s duties include managing all aspects of the data centre lifecycle– from design, construction, operations, to de-commissions.”
Apple has recently spent nearly $1 billion (R8.05 billion) on a new 500,000 square-foot data centre in Maiden, N.C, which has been affectionately name the “Orchard.”
