Critics complain about Cell C’s Free Weekend Call Conditions

Cellular operator Cell C recently launched a souped-up version of the popular Woza Weekend offering and will allow free calls between Cell C subscribers over weekends.

“Starting at midnight on Friday, 22 June, Woza Weekend will change the way Cell C subscribers connect with each other on weekends as Cell C to Cell C calls will be free,” Cell C said.

But this offer is subject to conditions which drew criticism from some sources.

To qualify for the 120 free on-net weekend minutes Cell C pre-paid customers must recharge at least once a week while contract subscribers are required to have used up all their free minutes first.

This may restrict the benefits of the new Cell C offer to a only portion of their subscriber base which drew sharp criticism from some consumers. “Utterly useless if you have a contract / talk minutes which you try to make last the month,” said one consumer.

The general feedback about Cell C’s free weekend minutes however remains positive with consumers who are now looking towards Vodacom and MTN to match or better Cell C’s offer.
