‘Telecom directives a key step’

"Policy directives on the unbundling of the sector are an important step in bringing about competition and cheaper broadband. The successful implementation of the directives will take forward growth of the SA service and knowledge- based industries," he said.

"They initiate a process whereby SA will perhaps – when compared to other jurisdictions – seek to achieve this objective at a much faster pace than you find is the case in other dispensations," said Mpahlwa.

"The need for a regulatory framework in these industries is crucial," he concluded.
