Ericsson welcomes Marconi SA into its stable
This follows Ericsson’s completion of its international acquisition of parts of Marconi’s telecom business on January 23.
Effective February 27, Marconi SA MD, Richard Bicker-Caarten, took up the position of vice-president responsible for the Telkom account within MUSA.
As a result of the anticipated smooth integration of the local Ericsson and Marconi businesses, no redundancies are expected to be necessary in the foreseeable future, and all former Marconi SA employees will continue to report to Bicker-Caarten in his new position.
This move follows Ericsson’s purchase of a 74,99% stake in Marconi Communications SA, with the remaining 25,01% being held by local black empowerment company, African Renaissance Holdings. This transaction was finalised on February 27.
Ericsson says that its acquisition of Marconi’s telecommunications equipment and international services will reinforce its position in the accelerating transmission segments and expand its platform for leadership in the next generation converging networks.
