ADSL user account details freely available due to poor security
Within five minutes Stirton was able to supply the usernames and passwords of a few ADSL account holders using very basic hacking techniques.
“People who know the factory default user/pass combinations can get into almost any router and steal your ADSL account details. They can change your settings or even set up a new username and password which will effectively lock you out of the router unless you know how to reset it to its defaults,” Stirton said.
To secure their ADSL account information users simply need to change their default router login details. In simple terms, change your router password to something only you will know.
“It must be understood though that this is nobody else’s fault but the person who set up the router. The absolute first thing to do when you get a router/modem is to change the default login username and passwords,” he continued.
Unauthorized multiple logins have been a problem for many ADSL users, and it this poor router security which may be to blame in many of these cases.
