What’s Next — Maziv CEO Dietlof Maré on expanding fibre access and connecting South Africa

In this What’s Next with Aki Anastasiou interview, Maziv CEO Dietlof Maré unpacks how the South African telecommunications sector is evolving.

Maré has served as the Group CEO of Maziv since 2022 and has over 30 years of experience in the telecommunications sector.

Maziv is the parent company of Dark Fibre Africa and Vumatel, two of South Africa’s largest fibre companies, and has deployed over 50,000 kilometres of fibre across the nation to connect more than two million homes and businesses.

Prior to assuming his current position, Maré also served as CEO of Dark Fibre Africa for three years, and as Vumatel CEO for eight years.

In addition, he was CEO of Vodafone Albania for six years, and worked at Vodacom South Africa for 17 years.

During his time at Vodacom South Africa, Maré held multiple leadership positions, including:

  • Executive Head of Direct Expenditure
  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Managing Director

Maré specialises in leading complex and large-scale projects, driving innovation and growth, and building strong partnerships and teams.

He is also a graduate of the Global CEO Program and completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Auditing from the University of Pretoria.
