X hit by outage
Social media platform X experienced a technical issue on Monday, 22 June 2026, resulting in users being unable to view post feeds.
Thousands of users reported issues with their post feeds on Downdetector.com and other social media platforms like Threads.
While the What’s Happening trending stories feed was still serving posts, users could not see any posts in their “For You” or “Following” feeds.
On the international version of Downdetector, over 26,000 users reported struggling to reach the website at one point, with a major spike just before 16:00 on Monday afternoon.
The local version of Downdetector saw over 300 reports just after 16:00 as South African users attempted to access the website.
Users took to rival social media platform, Meta’s Threads, to post about the outage, with some users suggesting that the issues were common.
“Twitter just went down again lol. This is why Threads is the better [platform],” one user said. “X is definitely down for me. I don’t know if anyone else is,” another user said.
While there was no information on what caused the outage, feeds in South Africa seemed to be restored about half an hour after the problems were first reported.
According to MacRumors, it was possible that a broader issue affecting Cloudflare was behind the issues.
Around the same time as the reports increased on X, remote monitoring platform TeamViewer also experienced a surge in reports.
X owner Elon Musk blamed a “massive cyberattack” on the widespread disruptions to the platform last year.
He claimed that the outage was orchestrated by a “large, coordinated group” or country. That attack also resulted in posts failing to load for users in many countries across the globe.
Dark Storm, a pro-Palestinian hacktivist group, took credit for the attacks at the time via its Telegram page, although it did not provide proof supporting its claims.
