AMD brings high-end gaming to notebooks
January 13, AMD announced the new ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 series graphics series.
The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4800 is AMD’s its next generation series of notebook graphics processors, bringing the successful desktop HD 4800 graphics series to notebooks. The new Mobility range offers DirectX 10.1 support for games, high-end HD multimedia and energy-efficient features aimed at maximizing battery life.
The ATI Mobility range is available in three different variants.
The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4800 series caters to the high end, making use of ATI CrossFireX technology it is able to deliver up to one teraFLOP of performance power.
The Radeon HD 4600 series is a more balanced solution, trading the high end performance of the HD4800 for increased energy efficiency.
The HD 4300 and HD 4500 series are optimal for thin and light notebooks, providing increased battery life and capable of performing of basic media-centric tasks.
Asus have announced their first notebook range to make use of the new Radeon Mobility 4000 range.
“We are pleased to offer the world’s first notebooks with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics in the ASUS N51Tp and N81Vp; and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 graphics in the F81Se.” Alvin Chou, Senior Product Manager for ASUS’ Notebook Business Unit.
MSI has announced the EX625 which will incorporate the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4600 series. They have also announced the high end GT725 which will make use of the Mobility HD 4800.
All ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 series graphics processors are closely based on the highly successful ATI Radeon HD 4800 series architecture. The Mobility HD 4000 will also be the first notebook graphics solution to make use of GDDR5 memory.
