AMD launches ATI Radeon HD 4770
AMD recently announced the launch of its new HD 4770, the latest installment in the popular 4000 range.
It will officially be the first desktop graphics card that will use the 40nm manufacturing process and will feature third-generation hardware support for DirectX 10.1. The 4770 will also include GDDR5 memory and will be able to be incorporated via ATI Crossfire technology which will allow two cards to be used on one motherboard which will increase non linear performance.
Although the 4770 is no GTX 295 it will, in typical AMD fashion, offer value for money. Retail prices running as low as $99 have been circulating around this card and, if these rumours prove to be true, then the 4770 will sit at a very attractive price point for casual gamers wanting to modernise their systems.
The 4770 will also feature full HD support including Blu Ray.
There have been rumours that Nvidia will position its GeForce GTS 250, which currently retails at the $114 mark, to compete with the 4770 although no confirmation has yet been made regarding this.
As yet there has been no announcement regarding when the 4770 will be available in South Africa or what price point it will retail at. It has, however, been confirmed that although the graphics card is available in Europe its current availability is low.
