Free Zone powered by Google is no more
Telkom Mobile (aka 8ta) has ended its “Free Zone powered by Google” service which offered free access to some of Google’s services.
Free Zone was launched by Google and 8ta at G-South Africa on 13 November 2012, offering free access to Gmail, Google+ and Google Search.
This service provided 8ta subscribers with access to Google Search, Google e-mail and Google social networking free of charge.
The Free Zone trial ran until 31 May 2013, and the service has now been discontinued.
Google South Africa spokesperson Julie Taylor explained that Free Zone was a promotional offer and just one of many ways Google is aiming to make the Web more accessible and affordable for businesses and consumers.
Telkom Mobile was asked why it decided to end this service, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.
