New Nokia N97 released this month

Nokia today announced that it plans to release the Nokia N97 worldwide this month in over 75 countries.

The highly anticipated device features a tilting 3.5” resistive touch display and a full QWERTY keyboard.  It will be Nokia’s first device with a personalisable home screen which can be customized with a number of widgets. This includes links to social networking sites such as Facebook, news sources such as Bloomberg and Reuters, shopping and weather information.

“The Nokia N97 is an important step towards our vision of delivering a highly personalized Internet experience,” said Jonas Geust, Vice President and head of Nokia Nseries. “Fuelled by a multitude of music, maps, games, media and applications via Ovi, the Nokia N97 transforms the Internet into an experience that’s completely tailored to the tastes and interests of its owner.”

The N97 features a 32GB onboard memory with MicroSD support for up to 16GB. It supports GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE and 3G networks and includes WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and microUSB 2.0 connectivity.

Its 5 megapixel camera can capture images and video at 30 frames per second (fps) and features Carl Zeiss Optics and an LED flash.

Although a local release date has not yet been confirmed sources speculate that South Africa will be one of the 75 countries to receive the N97 this month. Pricing details are not yet available.
