Broadband pricing comparison

Telkom increased the size of its ADSL usage limits (aka caps), providing subscribers with more bandwidth for the same price.  At the same time Telkom increased the price of its analogue line rental from R 124.20 to R 131.00 per month.

While Telkom increased the usage limits for 2 GB and 3 GB subscribers to 3 GB and 5 GB respectively, the company said that its threshold capping procedure – where users were allowed to exceed their cap without losing international connectivity – will come to an end.  This is bad news for ADSL users with a 1 GB Telkom account who in future will receive a higher overall bill without any additional benefits.

The new ADSL pricing and usage limits mean that some ADSL offerings became more competitive in the local broadband market while others lost ground to competing wireless broadband products.  The following table provides a snapshot of the most prominent local broadband offerings.
