DSTV UEC HD PVR release pushed back
Multichoice has revealed that its new UEC HD PVR decoder is currently in its final testing phase and will be released to the public shortly, although no solid release date can yet be given.
In July the company announced that the quad tuner decoder, which is set to compete with the company’s current PACE HD PVR, would be released in September. This date has been pushed back to allow for further testing to take place.
This new decoder will have the same functionality as the current PACE HD PVR, which features a 500GB hard drive which can hold roughly 150 hours of recorded standard definition television or 50 hours of high definition television.
In addition to the incoming UEC decoder Multichoice recently announced that it will be making a lower tier HD PVR decoder available for roughly R2 000 in 2010, although no further product details have yet been made available.
Multichoice, which is currently the only pay-TV service operating in South Africa, believes that it offers a competitive high definition service which is continually being updated.
Company spokesperson Jackie Rakitla added that a general software update was made available to subscribers on the 10th of September in which “changes made were to the DStv touch menu to allow for the launch of a combined News & Weather service, as well as the Big Brother interactive service.”
HD PVR subscribers can expect the next update before the end of the year, provided testing and consumer field trials go according to plan. This will “address some isolated incidences such as deleting entire series, improvement to fast forward and rewind, TV Guide loading” and will make the DSTv On Demand Service available to HD PVR customers said Rakitla.
