More ADSL price cuts
Over the last few months various Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have cut the price of their ADSL data bundles, including Web Africa, Vox Telepreneur, Afrihost and G-Connect.
The latest ISP to cut prices is RSAWEB, which introduced new pricing yesterday. “Recent developments in the South African broadband landscape have empowered us to pass on significant broadband savings to our customers. It’s about time,” RSAWEB said in a company statement.
“With immediate effect, we are pleased to announce price cuts on our Super, Premium and Ultra DSL products. Selected packages have been discounted by as much as 60% (R49/GB), which will bring much needed relief to broadband consumers.”
Standard ADSL pricing starts at R69 per GB, and increases to R1,699 for a 30 GB account (R56.63 per GB). This is a R16 per GB price cut from the previous price of R85 per GB. Top-up pricing starts at R75 per GB and decreases to R59 per GB for a 30 GB account.
The company’s ‘Premium DSL’ service offers IS based bandwidth priced from R69 for a 1 GB account to R1,099 for a 20 GB account – with top up price of R59 per GB. According to an RSAWEB consultant the previous Premium DSL pricing was R105 per GB.
While the new RSAWEB tariffs are a significant improvement on its previous pricing models, it is unlikely that it will excite knowledgeable consumers who have grown accustomed to paying R50 per GB or less.
Many ISPs like Afrihost, G-Connect and Vox Telepreneur are already offering basic ADSL data bundles at R50 per GB or less, and many other companies like Web Africa and Cybersmart are preparing to cut their current rates.
