TelkomInternet losing ground in ADSL market
According to Telkom’s five-year operational review, TelkomInternet’s share of the ADSL ISP market has decreased from 42.5% in March 2004 to 36% in March 2007.
In 2004 Telkom had 42.5% of the ADSL ISP market but since then there has been a steady year-on-year decline. Telkom’s market share fell to 39% in 2005, and then in 2006 there was another 1% dip to 38%. TelkomInternet currently has 36% of the ADSL market on their books.
This decline may be attributed to a more competitive ADSL ISP space as well as a backlash from consumers because of poor service levels from Telkom.
According to the latest MyADSL broadband survey TelkomInternet subscribers gave their ISP only 4.8 out of a total score of 10 for overall satisfaction with the company.
This figure was significantly lower than the industry standard. The other ISPs received 7.8 out of 10 for overall satisfaction with their service.
TelkomInternet however still remains the largest ADSL ISP with around 120 000 subscribers.
