ADSL problems hit South Africa

ADSL users from Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban have all complained early on Monday about very slow speeds on both international and local sites earlier today.

Users reported very high latencies and even time-outs when trying to access websites, with local latencies running close to 1000 ms in some cases.

A SAIX notice at 03:00 this morning reported possible network failure due to a broken link between Hong Kong and Rosebank Lir which “may result in slow responses from international sites”.

Telkom was unable to supply official comment at the time of publication.
