How much will you save on your monthly ADSL bill?
Telkom announced an 18% cost reduction on its ADSL products, with a 38% price cuts on its DSL 384 access portion. These price cuts were welcomed by consumers, but how much of a saving will you see on your monthly ADSL bill?
While the ADSL Access portion of the ADSL service saw reductions in price, Telkom announced an increase in standard analogue line rental.
The current residential line rental charge of R 99-92 will be increased to R 111.90. The monthly rental on analogue lines for businesses will increase from R 132.75 to R 148.68.
New prices and savings
The biggest winners with the new ADSL prices from Telkom are the DSL 384 subscribers, who will enjoy a 38% reduction in access charges – from R 245-00 to R 152-00 – effective 1 August 2007. This constitutes a R 93-00 saving, but the R 11-98 increase in line rental cuts the saving down to an effective R 81-02.
DSL 512 customers will pay R 326-00 for ADSL access in future, a saving of R 36-00 from the current R 362-00. Taking the new line rental into account DSL 512 subscribers will save only R 24-02 per month.
DSL 4 Mbps users will save R 103-00 per month on ADSL access which will be reduced from R 516-00 to R 413-00. This is an effective saving of R 91-02 when taking the new line rental charges into account.
