Telkom starts billing for local ADSL bandwidth

Towards the end of last year Telkom launched the ‘free local bandwidth’ service as part of a trial in which users were given access to free, unlimited local bandwidth.

In the wake of their successful trial, Telkom Internet launched their free local bandwidth promotion in February, providing their AllAccess ADSL subscribers with free local bandwidth at no extra charge.

During the promotional period Telkom Internet AllAccess 1 GB subscribers receive 10 Gig free local only bandwidth while 2 GB AllAccess users receive 20 GB free local bandwidth and 3 GB AllAccess subscribers get 30 GB of free local usage.

Telkom said that the feedback regarding this promotional service has thus far been positive and that many of their customers have been using the promotional free local bandwidth.

Uncertainty existed as to whether Telkom Internet subscribers, who surpassed their allocated local bandwidth, would be charged for the extra local usage.

Telkom confirmed that it has now started to bill customers who exceed their allocated local usage.

“Customers have been billed accordingly when their local bandwidth usage exceeded the package allocation,” said Nabintu Petsana, Telkom’s Acting Group Executive for Corporate Communication.
