ADSL upload speed increased

Telkom recently conducted trials involving higher upload speeds on its 4Mbps ADSL service. According to Telkom the trials were successful and the company has started to upgrade subscribers to higher speeds.

Telkom’s "Fastest DSL" service provides downlink speeds of up to 4 096Kbps and uplink speeds of up to 384Kbps. Subscribers’ upload speeds are, however, being upgraded to 512Kbps.

Some users have reported upstream sync speeds of up to 640Kbps, but anecdotal evidence suggests that users are generally upgraded to 512Kbps.

The upgrade takes place automatically and there are no costs associated to consumers for the higher uplink speeds.
