Ready made ADSL ISP solution
Neology has announced the availability of its Hosted ADSL ISP Platform catering to Internet Service Providers (ISP) and Operators in South Africa. The service provides authentication, billing and management for ADSL user accounts though a graphic user interface.
“Our Hosted ADSL service allows ISPs to switch from a pure resell model to Telkom’s more profitable Self-Authentication model in which the ISP can define customised packages and will only have to reimburse Telkom for actual bandwidth usage,” Neology said.
The self-authentication model has traditionally been the domain of larger ISPs with their own leased line infrastructure and billing systems, but Neology hopes that their product will open up this market to smaller players.
“The portal caters for both service providers and customers. The ISP portal allows for multiple business rules per product, invoice management as well as an online store front. The portal is individually branded and hosted in a secured data centre,” Neology said.
The ISP’s customers have the ability to purchase and instantly activate product bundles using a variety of payment methods. They can also view their usage, invoice and payment history through a secure web interface.
These types of services were made popular by ISPs like Web Africa, Axxess and OpenWeb, and a similar online bandwidth purchase offering was recently launched by Telkom’s own ISP Telkom Internet.
Many small ISPs targeted
The Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) currently has 158 members, of which most are ‘small members’. These smaller ISPs, typically without significant development budgets, present an opportunity in the market for solutions that will enable them to compete against larger players in terms of service offerings.
This is one of the markets which Neology is targeting, and according to MD Matthew Austin their customers can expect to save money and improve services.
“Neology’s ISP Platform will allow ISPs to realise real savings and increase service delivery for their customers while still retaining control of all aspects of their product offering, billing and management,” says Austin.
Austin however points out the platform already provides authentication and billing services for more than 10 000 active user accounts every month, and its scalability makes it suitable for clients of any size.
