All-in-one ADSL pricing comparison
In early 2007 Telkom launched an ADSL access wholesale service allowing Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to resell the ADSL access portion to their customers. This prompted many ISPs, including Telkom Internet, to launch one-price ADSL services which included the ISP and ADSL access portions on the service.
While this one-price ADSL service bundles two components of an ADSL offering, consumers must still pay Telkom for their standard analogue line rental – R 124.20 for residential customers and R 165.00 for business subscribers.
Telkom launched its Do Broadband Level 1 offering – which includes DSL 384 access and a 1 GB monthly data allowance – for R 199.00 per month, setting the standard for all other ISPs. It was not too long before other ISPs like Cybersmart, Nashua Mobile and Web Africa joined the fray and undercut Telkom.
Nashua Mobile currently offers the best deal at R 139.00 per month for a DSL 348 line and 1 GB of unshaped data. Cybersmart, charging R 169.00 per month for a similar service, is also a favorite among consumers.
For higher speed offerings, typically DSL 4 Mbps with a monthly usage limit of 3 GB, the prices can range significantly from ISP to ISP. Here Cybersmart is the cheapest at R 524.00 per month while Nashua Mobile’s price of R 549.00 per month is also very competitive.
