Uncapped ADSL from Web Africa in the pipeline

Internet Service Provider (ISP) Web Africa recently announced that it will roll out and operate its own IP’s and network, something which will mean that the company will be able to design and build their own ADSL products.

Web Africa will make use of Telkom’s IPConnect (IPC) products to serve its wholesale ADSL needs.  Web Africa CEO Matthew Tagg would not give details about the exact capacity of the IPC link which will be used, but he said that it is well over 500 Mbps.

Tagg said that Web Africa will initially use international bandwidth on SAT-3 to serve its clients.  “The reason for this is our brand focus on dependability and good performance at good pricing.  If we cut corners too much, reliability will suffer,” explained Tagg.  He however added that they will most likely use SEACOM and WACS in future – either directly or through carriers.

By self-provisioning Web Africa has far more freedom to create innovative ADSL products, something which Tagg said will mean a better value proposition to consumers.  While Tagg explained they have not yet finalized product details or pricing, he did say that their ADSL product range will be entirely redone in due course.

One of the new products will be an uncapped ADSL solution.  Tagg said that a lot of research and development is needed to bring a quality uncapped ADSL product to the market, and consumers should only expect this from Web Africa early next year.
